BIO

Active on the punk-rock scene since the 70s, Kira Roessler has an impressive musical story. It starts with the early days playing at the Masque, The Whisky and other Los Angeles venues specializing in the underground music of the time. She then became the bass-player of Black Flag and formed Dos with Mike Watt. Her solo debut simply titled as ‘Kira’ saw the light in 2021, after embarking on a career sound editing for movies and tv. “It’s become a balancing act- living, experiencing, and then dramatizing it into songs…. Any experience is fair game.” – says Kira. A journey from Black Flag to the member of the Academy-award winning sound team (Mad Max:Fury Road) doesn’t sound that surprising now, her life has been a fascinating set of twists and turns.

“Being a dog mom is exhilarating, funny, tragic, and scary.” – continues Kira. “Working in the movie business is demanding, exacting, and inspiring.” Some of her current projects include The Creator and Joker: Folie a Deux. While away from her professional life, Kira has been getting ready for the next step, a follow-up to the debut solo release. An intimate journey from the artist, exploring the world from within and outside of the punk-rock box.

Press Quotes

“Balancing jazz improvisations and the recursive motives of folk song, Roessler creates a world so personal and unbiased that any music reference would be redundant.”
“Her bass playing is as knotty as it is on those later Black Flag albums, but her singing has a haunting, ethereal dream pop vibe, and it’s great to hear this side of her.”
